Agen otonom adalah sistem kecerdasan buatan (AI) yang mampu melaksanakan tugas-tugas kompleks secara mandiri.[1]

Definisi

Terdapat berbagai definisi mengenai agen otonom. Menurut Brustoloni (1991):

"Autonomous agents are systems capable of autonomous, purposeful action in the real world."[2]

Menurut Maes (1995):

"Autonomous agents are computational systems that inhabit some complex dynamic environment, sense and act autonomously in this environment, and by doing so realize a set of goals or tasks for which they are designed."[3]

Franklin dan Graesser (1997) meninjau beragam definisi dan kemudian mengajukan definisi mereka sendiri:

"An autonomous agent is a system situated within and a part of an environment that senses that environment and acts on it, over time, in pursuit of its own agenda and so as to effect what it senses in the future."[4]

Mereka menjelaskan bahwa:

"Humans and some animals are at the high end of being an agent, with multiple, conflicting drives, multiples senses, multiple possible actions, and complex sophisticated control structures. At the low end, with one or two senses, a single action, and an absurdly simple control structure we find a thermostat."[4]

Penampilan agen

Lee dkk. (2015) menyoroti persoalan keselamatan yang timbul dari bagaimana kombinasi antara penampilan luar dan agen otonom internal memengaruhi reaksi manusia terhadap kendaraan otonom. Penelitian mereka menunjukkan bahwa agen yang menyerupai manusia dengan tingkat otonomi tinggi memiliki keterkaitan yang kuat dengan persepsi kehadiran sosial, kecerdasan, keselamatan, dan keandalan. Secara khusus, penampilan memiliki pengaruh paling besar terhadap kepercayaan afektif, sedangkan tingkat otonomi berpengaruh kuat pada kedua ranah kepercayaan, baik afektif maupun kognitif, di mana kepercayaan kognitif didasari oleh faktor-faktor berbasis pengetahuan, sementara kepercayaan afektif terutama digerakkan oleh emosi.[5]
