Berawal pada malam 23 Maret 1945, Operasi Plunder adalah aksi melintasi Sungai Rhine di Rees, Wesel, dan selatan Sungai Lippe yang dilakukan oleh Angkatan Darat Kedua Britania. di bawah pimpinan Letnan-Jenderal Miles C. Dempsey (Operasi Turnscrew, Widgeon, dan Torchlight), dan Angkatan Darat Kesembilan AS (Operasi Flashpoint), di bawah pimpinan Letnan Jenderal William Simpson. Korps Airborne XVIII AS, yang terdiri dari Divisi Airborne ke-6 Britania dan Divisi Airborne ke-17 AS, melakukan Operasi Varsity, pendaratan parasut di tepi timur dalam mendukung operasi tersebut.
